EXPERIENCE

My background has been in all forms of Insurance from being a Senior Underwriter dealing with multi-million-pound policies and clients to a field BDM and then onto being my own protection specialist.

I’ve over 30 years’ experience in all aspects of insurance.

May 2020 – To present – Self-employed protection advisor with Bond & Associates Financial Services Limited

Since taking a voluntary package to leave my position as a Senior Underwriter with Travelers Insurance Company in 2012, I have been involved in working with insurance brokers, acting as a business development manager and relationship director with a series of companies.  After some serious health concerns and multiple operations, I decided whilst in hospital in 2019 that I would go out on my own and be my own protection insurance advisor, offering a bespoke proposition to both personal clients and businesses alike.

I know Barrie Hammond at Bond & Associates and discussed with him the idea of going out on my own but under his trusted and respected banner.  Barrie agreed and backed me throughout the retraining with our network, Sesame. I qualified in late May 2020.
Since then I have built up my own book of clients, both personal and businesses.

February 2017 – To present –  Director of Kilnwood Associates Ltd

February 2017 – May 2020 –  Business development manager at a Wealth Management Company.

I was approached to work alongside a Wealth Associate Partner at a well-known Wealth Management Company in 2016 and eventually took the plunge in February 2017 to set up my own company and go self-employed working solely as a business develop manager to the Partner.

Key Responsibilities

To find and bring in new clients and act as the business development manager for the company.

September 2014 – February 2017 – Project Partners Design & Build Limited

I was approached by the Director of Project Partners Design & Build Limited to consider joining their team as a business development manager and decided to take the unusual step of leaving insurance to join their team.  This was completely out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to test myself and learn new skills; I knew the Director had previously worked in a Bank before moving into refurbishment.

Key Achievements

Brought in United Airlines based at WT1, Heathrow and ancillary projects , which equalled our previous turnover for the prior year.
Brought in another prestigious client Cubic,  for a refurbishment.
Outperformed my sales targets by three or four fold every year I was at Project Partners,
Worked with Marketing and in-house designers to bring a new and glossy product credentials document in.

July 2013 – September 2014 – Towergate Group

After taking voluntary redundancy from Travelers Insurance Company Limited and taking some personal time to rejuvenate after so many years at one Company, I accepted a role with Towergate Group as a Business Development Executive.  My role was to promote Towergate Group whilst visiting and developing relationships with Financial Advisors, Mortgage Advisors, Commercial Agents, and Affinity partners, driving increased lead generation volumes to the in-house team.  I also represented Towergate on roadshows to many of the networks around the country.

Key Achievements

I managed to tidy up many commission queries for introducing advisors, which in many cases predated me by two to three years, by spending days on end at HO with the Credit Control team
Created brand new Towergate marketing and product material, updated fact sheets in partnership with the marketing team
Presented to networks across the country from Cornwall to Rotherham to Aintree and Cobham despite being responsible for Oxford and the South

1990 – 2012 – Travelers Insurance Company Limited, Part of Travelers in the USA

During the recession of the late 80’s, having worked for a temping agency doing every ‘bottom drawer’ job they had to build a strong and reliable reputation, at the start of 1990 I was offered the opportunity to ‘temp’ in the post room of then St Katherine Insurance Company Limited based in Thornton Heath.  After two weeks I was offered a permanent position which I accepted.  From then on, I worked my way through various units and teams until I reached the position of Senior Underwriter.  After over 22 years I felt it was time to leave and try something new and accepted voluntary redundancy and have not looked back.  Many of the skills I use today were honed at Travelers Insurance Company Limited.

Key Achievements

Consistently led the department on results, retention figures, rate, premium and organic growth
Consistently achieved accurate files via internal and external audits
Responsibility to manage high value clients.
Role model for high standards of administration and file management
Designed and had implemented by I.T. a new stand-alone Marine Cargo Section to fit onto the existing Commercial Combined Policy for a prestigious client.
Liaised with the Global Team for many clients with an overseas exposure.
Sought and placed increased reinsurance as per requirements, which showed up a lack of key capacity in our reinsurance proposition to the company.
Managed and supervised a team and temporarily managed the section of 15.
